Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Inaugurates Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore
On Friday, August 21, 2026, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif officially inaugurated the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore, expanding access to specialized cardiac care for residents of Punjab and patients from across Pakistan. The newly constructed 256-bed hospital is equipped with modern intensive care and coronary care units, a hybrid catheterization laboratory, and advanced cardiac diagnostic tools, all supported by a medical staff trained to international healthcare standards.
During the launch, Chief Minister Sharif announced that all cardiac treatments at the facility will be provided completely free of charge to the people of Punjab. Highlighting that heart transplant procedures typically cost around $50,000, she introduced a dedicated heart transplant fund to grant eligible patients access to free transplant surgeries starting Saturday, August 22, 2026. Open to patients nationwide, the new institute is part of a broader healthcare strategy that includes a proposed home dialysis program, free stroke-prevention injections, and the Clinics on Wheels initiative to reach local communities.
