Lahore General Hospital Reports Alleged Theft of Rs. 260,000 in Medicines
Government medicines and medical supplies worth approximately Rs. 260,000 have reportedly gone missing from the emergency department of Lahore General Hospital, prompting hospital authorities to seek police assistance.
According to officials, a suspect identified as Mubashir Iqbal was handed over to police after the alleged disappearance of the supplies came to light. The recovered items reportedly included antibiotics, injections, surgical gloves, cannulas, CVP lines, and other medical supplies intended for government hospital use.
During questioning, Mubashir Iqbal allegedly referred to dispenser Mian Hamid Nadeem and claimed that he was supposed to contact him regarding the medicines. The allegations are now being examined as part of the investigation, and authorities will determine whether other individuals were involved.
Hospital officials said the matter came to light following concerns over the suspected removal and misuse of government medical supplies. The incident has raised questions about the security and monitoring of medicines kept in the emergency department for patient care.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Farhad Hussain said a case was being registered and that a detailed investigation would be carried out to establish the facts. Police and hospital authorities are expected to review available evidence and investigate how the supplies were accessed and removed.
The inquiry will also determine whether additional people were involved and whether there were weaknesses in the hospital’s inventory and security procedures.
Government hospitals depend on proper management of medicines and medical equipment to ensure essential treatment remains available to patients. Any unauthorized removal or loss of such supplies can place additional pressure on hospital resources and potentially affect patient care.
Further action against those responsible will depend on the findings of the investigation and the evidence collected by police and hospital authorities.
