PMD Forecasts Five-Day Spell of Heavy Rain Across Pakistan
According to the PMD, strong monsoon currents are moving into the upper parts of Pakistan, which is expected to increase rainfall activity during the coming days.
In Punjab, the forecast includes Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Mianwali, and several surrounding districts.
Parts of southern Punjab, including Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, are expected to receive rainfall mainly on August 20 and 21.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain with isolated heavy showers is expected in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Malakand, and other districts from August 17 to 21. Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, and Waziristan may receive rain toward the end of the forecast period.
The PMD has also predicted rain and thunderstorms in Azad Jammu and Kashmir from the evening of August 16 through August 21, while Gilgit-Baltistan may experience rainfall between August 18 and 21.
Most areas of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid. However, Musakhel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat, and Khuzdar may receive rain from August 17 to 20.
The department has warned that heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore through August 20. There is also a risk of landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Azad Kashmir.
The PMD has advised tourists and travelers to exercise caution during the forecast period. Farmers have also been encouraged to plan agricultural activities according to expected weather conditions, while relevant authorities have been directed to remain alert and take precautionary measures.
