Pakistan has experienced a significant surge in web accessibility as domestic internet subscriptions climbed to 5.10 million in 2026. This represents a dramatic rise from the 1.9 million connections recorded in 2024, highlighting the rapid evolution of the nation's digital landscape.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a briefing on these advancements during a high-profile session on May 11, 2026. The administration is focused on enhancing IT frameworks, narrowing the connectivity divide between urban and rural areas, and delivering superior internet facilities to a broader audience.

PM Shehbaz Sharif underlined the necessity of equipping the youth with technological tools. He remarked that digital programs will refine government services and accelerate Pakistan's progress in the global era. Furthermore, the state is launching complimentary Wi-Fi zones and digital study hubs nationwide to boost availability for both students and the general public.

Pakistan’s information technology exports are projected to hit $4.6 billion in the current financial year. Additionally, the country executed a landmark 5G spectrum auction earlier this year, generating approximately $507 million. These initiatives are set to provide high-speed connectivity and stimulate employment within the tech industry.
