Major Hike in Residential Smart Meter Costs Confirmed (LESCO)

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has declared a steep hike in single-phase AMI smart meter rates, sparking fears regarding further financial burdens on the public.

Based on a formal circular, the cost for a single-phase smart AMI unit has surged by roughly Rs. 6,000. The updated fee is now established at Rs. 17,700, jumping from the previous valuation of Rs. 11,665.

Insiders noted that the Material Management wing had released a memo only days prior, fixing the amount at Rs. 11,665. Nevertheless, the Director of Customer Services subsequently altered the tariff and sanctioned the new Rs. 17,700 rate.

In the past, LESCO had capped the price for a single-phase static meter at Rs. 4,000. Following the shift to smart technology, the total price escalation has currently hit approximately Rs. 13,000.

Per the official records, the adjusted pricing incorporates 10 meters of wiring. Any extra cabling needed past this specific length will incur further individual charges.

Furthermore, individuals seeking a fresh power connection must provide a security deposit notice calculated according to their authorized load.
