Rawalpindi Sees Over 200 Divorce Cases Filed in a Single Day

 

Punjab’s courts have resumed regular proceedings after a 30-day summer recess, with Rawalpindi’s family courts receiving a large number of new cases on the first day of reopening.

As many as 214 cases were filed across 27 family courts in Rawalpindi, involving various family and marital disputes, including divorce, khula, dowry and dower-related matters.

Among the cases, 18 men approached the courts seeking legal orders for their wives to return to their homes following marital disputes.

Court records indicated that some cases involved couples who had met through social media platforms, including TikTok. Several of these marriages reportedly ended within three to six months.

A number of Christian women also approached the courts seeking divorce, further adding to the range of family disputes brought before the judiciary following the summer recess.

The significant number of cases filed on the reopening day has drawn attention to the workload and continuing demand for family dispute resolution in Rawalpindi. Hearings and other legal proceedings will now resume according to the regular judicial schedule.

Civil, magistrate and special courts across Punjab also reopened and resumed normal proceedings after the month-long break.

In Rawalpindi, these courts dealt with various matters, including the production of accused individuals from Adiala Jail before the relevant courts.

The reopening marks the return of routine judicial activity across the province, while the high number of cases before Rawalpindi’s family courts highlights the continued volume of marital and family disputes requiring legal resolution.
