Monsoon Rains Expected Across Pakistan After Recent Heatwave

 

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, wind and thunderstorms across several parts of the country from September 12 to 17, as monsoon currents continue to affect the upper regions. A westerly wave is also expected to enter the upper parts of Pakistan during the weekend and strengthen on Monday, September 14.

The weather system is likely to bring intermittent rain with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms across Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Some areas may experience rainfall with occasional gaps during the forecast period.

Kashmir

Rain, wind and thunderstorms, accompanied by isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms, are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from September 12 to 17.

Islamabad and Punjab

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock are expected to receive rain, wind and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, from September 12 to 17.

From the evening or night of September 14 to 17, similar weather is expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan, along with surrounding areas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Rain, wind and thunderstorms are likely in Peshawar, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, D.I. Khan, Bannu and Waziristan from September 12 to 17. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also possible.

Gilgit-Baltistan

Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar are expected to experience rain, wind and thunderstorms from September 12 to 17, with moderate to isolated heavy rainfall possible.

Sindh

Most parts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid. However, rain, wind and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Thatta, Badin, Karachi and surrounding areas from the evening or night of September 13 to 16.

Balochistan

Hot and humid conditions are expected across most parts of Balochistan. However, Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel and surrounding areas may receive rain, wind and thunderstorms from the evening or night of September 13 to 16.

Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain alert, particularly where heavy rainfall could affect low-lying areas, roads and local drainage systems.
