LHC Rejects Petition Against CM Maryam Nawaz, Orders Rs. 100,000 Fine
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has imposed a Rs. 100,000 fine on a woman who filed a contempt petition against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and several other government officials.
The order was passed on Wednesday, September 16, during proceedings before LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum. The petitioner, Ashba Kamran, appeared before the court in person. Reports said the court questioned the need for the petition and also raised concerns over the incorrect case number submitted by her.
During the hearing, Kamran asked whether constitutional provisions and Supreme Court directives applied equally to government officials and ordinary citizens. She also alleged that certain instructions issued by the Supreme Court had not been followed by the authorities.
The chief justice asked the petitioner to provide the number of the main case associated with her contempt application. Kamran provided a case number that the court determined was incorrect, and she was unable to give a satisfactory explanation for the discrepancy.
The court observed that the error had resulted in the waste of judicial time and directed the petitioner to deposit a Rs. 100,000 fine before the proceedings could continue.
The petition lists Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Chief Secretary and Punjab Assembly Speaker, among others, as respondents.
