Lahore Plans 55-EV ‘Libraries on Wheels’ Project to Promote Reading
Students in Lahore will soon be able to benefit from mobile library services through a new “Libraries on Wheels” initiative aimed at bringing books and digital learning resources directly to schools.
Under the project, 55 electric vehicles will be provided to the Education Authority and transformed into mobile learning units. Each vehicle will feature 22 tablets along with an LED screen, offering students access to both digital educational content and traditional reading materials.
The mobile libraries will move between schools across the city, enabling students in different areas to use educational resources without depending entirely on permanent library facilities.
According to the project plan, each electric library vehicle will serve around 100 schools. This is expected to expand the initiative’s reach and provide learning resources to a large number of students, particularly in areas with limited access to libraries.
Schools will also provide charging facilities for the electric vehicles to ensure their continued operation.
During the first phase, all 55 mobile library vehicles will be stationed at selected pilot schools. From there, the units will serve nearby schools and give students access to books, tablets and other digital learning tools.
The initiative brings together conventional library services and modern technology, allowing students to benefit from physical books as well as digital educational resources.
Authorities expect the mobile library model to improve access to educational facilities across Lahore while giving schools a flexible and technology-enabled way to support student learning.
