Punjab Imposes Rs. 2,000 Fine for Motorcycles Without Side Mirrors and Indicators

Punjab is preparing to introduce stricter traffic regulations by imposing fines on motorcyclists who ride without properly fitted side-view mirrors and working indicators.

The proposed measure is part of a broader road safety campaign aimed at reducing traffic accidents and encouraging safer riding practices across the province. To implement the changes, the Lahore Traffic Police has submitted recommendations for amendments to the Motor Vehicles law.

Officials have also proposed that motorcycle manufacturers ensure all newly produced bikes are equipped with permanently installed side-view mirrors, making it more difficult for owners to remove them after purchase.

According to traffic authorities, riding without side mirrors and functional indicators significantly increases the risk of accidents by reducing visibility and limiting a rider’s ability to clearly signal turns or lane changes.

Authorities believe that stricter enforcement of these safety requirements will improve traffic discipline, enhance road safety, and better protect both motorists and pedestrians.

Alongside legal reforms, the government also plans to launch public awareness campaigns and road safety education programs.

These initiatives will educate motorcyclists about the importance of maintaining essential safety equipment, obeying traffic laws, and adopting responsible riding habits to help create safer roads throughout Punjab.
