Punjab Begins Early Preparations for Basant 2027

 

The Punjab government has begun preparations for Basant 2027, with plans to hold the traditional kite-flying festival across the province. According to sources, authorities are working on the legal and administrative framework required to organize the event safely.

Under the proposed plan, kite and string manufacturing may be permitted from October 2026. The government is also considering measures to regulate prices and ensure that kites and string remain available to the public at reasonable rates during the festival.

Sources said new legislation will be introduced to regulate kite flying and Basant celebrations. The proposed rules are expected to cover safety requirements, kite-flying restrictions, manufacturing standards, and other conditions aimed at protecting citizens.

The government has proposed holding Basant across Punjab during the last week of January 2027. Authorities are expected to announce approved locations and detailed kite-flying guidelines closer to the event.

Punjab already has regulations covering the manufacturing, sale, and use of kites, which the government plans to strengthen and implement during the festival.

Relevant administrative departments will be assigned responsibilities for managing the event, while monitoring mechanisms will be established to ensure compliance. Officials are also expected to take legal action against anyone violating the prescribed safety rules.

The preparations are aimed at allowing Basant celebrations to take place in a controlled, organized, and safer environment while preserving the cultural tradition of the festival.
