Global Tech Giant Google Officially Opens Its Office in Pakistan

Google has officially opened its first fully functional office in Pakistan, marking a deeper presence for the global technology company in the country. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the office in Islamabad on August 18, 2026. Google Vice President Wilson L. White attended the ceremony along with other officials.

The new office is expected to support Google’s work with Pakistan’s growing digital economy and create more opportunities in areas such as technology, digital skills, innovation, and online business. The development comes as Pakistan is trying to expand its technology sector and make better use of its young workforce.

Google has already been working in Pakistan for several years. The company registered a local presence in 2022 through a liaison office, but the latest development represents a move toward a more active local operation.

White said that the company has contributed more than Rs3.9 trillion to economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households over the past 10 years, while supporting more than 960,000 jobs. The company has also announced one year of free Google Gemini access for Pakistani students, giving young people an opportunity to use its AI tools.
