PMD Forecasts Fresh Monsoon Spell from July 29 to August 5

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced a fresh monsoon spell that is expected to impact most parts of the country from July 29 to August 5, with widespread rain and thunderstorms forecast during the period.

According to the PMD, moisture-laden monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will begin influencing the upper and central regions from July 29. In addition, a westerly weather system is likely to become active from August 1, increasing the chances of rainfall and thunderstorms across several areas.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, and many districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunder. Isolated areas may experience heavy to very heavy downpours. Karachi is also likely to receive rain and thunderstorms between July 31 and August 2, while rainfall is forecast for Kashmir and several other parts of the country.

The weather department has cautioned that intense rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in streams and seasonal nullahs, landslides in mountainous regions, and damage caused by strong winds and lightning. Tourists, commuters, and farmers have been urged to remain vigilant, while rescue and disaster management authorities have been directed to stay fully prepared.

The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, keep away from rivers and flood-prone areas, and regularly follow official weather advisories for the latest updates.
