Pakistan Receives Major Shipment of Over 2,000 Electric Vehicles

Karachi Port Welcomes Historic RoRo Vessel Delivering 2,000+ Imported EVs

Pakistan has marked a major milestone in its automotive sector by welcoming its inaugural Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargo ship at Karachi Port, delivering an unprecedented consignment of more than 2,000 imported electric vehicles (EVs).

The historic delivery reportedly comprises BYD Atto 2, BYD Atto 3, and BYD Shark 6 models, drastically expanding the domestic electric car inventory while highlighting an intensifying consumer shift toward eco-friendly transport.

The successful docking of this dedicated RoRo ship signals a fundamental turning point in Pakistan’s transition to sustainable transit. Moving away from traditional crane-dependent shipping, the specialized RoRo design enables vehicles to be driven straight up and down the vessel's internal ramps, significantly shortening discharge windows, preventing handling damage, and streamlining maritime supply chain mechanics.

Auto sector analysts anticipate that this massive arrival will lower entry barriers for local EV buyers, accelerate the nationwide adoption of eco-conscious automobiles, and directly advance Pakistan's broader strategic goals to curb carbon footprints and update its national transportation infrastructure.
