Cricket Development: Two Joint Ventures Compete for Islamabad's Rs. 11.4 Billion Stadium Contract

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is on the verge of finalized contract allocation for Islamabad’s inaugural, purpose-built international cricket arena. The massive infrastructural undertaking carries an estimated budget of Rs. 11.4 billion, with administrative bodies poised to unseal the financial proposals of pre-qualified consortia in the coming days.

Positioned in close proximity to Sector D-12 against the backdrop of the Margalla Hills, the modern sporting venue will accommodate roughly 32,000 spectators and offer a massive parking layout for 10,000 vehicles. Drawing stylistic and structural cues from the celebrated Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the complex will align completely with premier global venue benchmarks.

Execution will follow an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) turnkey framework, centralizing everything from initial blueprints to the final finishes under a single prime contractor. Spanning roughly 50 acres of land within a broader sports zoning district, the enterprise operates as a strategic joint venture between the CDA and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Administrative heads have indicated that once the bidding cycle concludes and the contract is officially signed, field construction will commence immediately. Beyond serving as a state-of-the-art addition to the federal capital's athletic infrastructure, the stadium is being positioned to host high-profile fixtures, including prospective Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournaments, while driving regional tourism and commercial growth.
