Karakoram Highway Blocked in Gilgit-Baltistan Following Intense Rainfall and Landslides

Vehicular flow on the Karakoram Highway has been halted at various locations due to persistent rains that sparked landslides and sudden floods across parts of Shangla and neighboring northern territories.

Per preliminary accounts, intense precipitation loosened the hillsides along alpine corridors, resulting in boulders, silt, and waste tumbling onto the pavement. These obstructions have interrupted the movement of cars on vital segments of the thoroughfare, especially paths used by voyagers heading toward high northern spots, such as Gilgit-Baltistan.

Officials have cautioned drivers and visitors to postpone non-essential trips until the climate stabilizes and cleanup activities are finished. The circumstances have rendered transit incredibly arduous in the impacted zones, where limited sight and continuing showers are complicating the debris removal process.

Emergency units, alongside road repair personnel, are currently working to clear away the rubble and unblock the closed segments. Operations are proceeding under taxing meteorological conditions to re-establish secure transit and guarantee the protection of travelers navigating the highway.
