Provincial Government Greenlights Reduction in Traffic Fines for Punjab

According to the updated statutes, fines for motorbikes, rickshaws, private cars, and commercial trucks have been notably decreased. These modifications are designed to address citizen complaints regarding the steep costs of everyday traffic citations and to establish a fairer enforcement framework. Motorcyclists and rickshaw operators, who are frequently cited, will experience significant reductions in their penalties. Similarly, charges for minor infractions by private vehicles and heavy-duty transport have also been scaled down.

Despite these updates, the government has kept stringent punishments for major road offenses. Specifically, speeding tickets will remain at their current levels, showing a persistent focus on public safety and the prevention of accidents linked to reckless driving. Officials have clarified that while standard fines are being eased, there will be no leniency for hazardous driving behavior.

The revised legislation will be implemented following the provincial governor's formal endorsement. Once active, the updated penalty structure is intended to provide financial reprieve to a vast number of motorists while ensuring that road order continues to be upheld throughout Punjab.
