Good news for travelers: Murad Ali Shah says transport fares won't rise
KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced Sunday that public transport operators will refrain from increasing prices, maintaining the rates in effect prior to February 28. Speaking at a press briefing with transport representatives, Sindh’s chief executive stated the administration would absorb the high fuel costs, noting that the Sindh government intends to grant a Rs 100,000 subsidy per registered bus through federal channels.
He explained that this financial aid is not sourced from the NFC. “Providing relief solely for state-run transport was simpler, but stabilizing fares across all bus services offers broader public benefits.” He remarked that global conflicts yield harsh repercussions, which may potentially escalate in severity. Murad Ali Shah observed that maintaining a steady petrol supply at local pumps is a victory. “Fuel stations in several other nations have completely run dry,” the chief minister noted. He mentioned that transporters are being provided a relief package to prevent a rise in commuting costs. “Transport owners have agreed to join the provincial government’s initiative,” he continued. He clarified that operators will not raise prices for coaches, minibuses, or vans, as the state will offset the increased cost of diesel, he added. “Public transit charges will stay locked at the levels observed on February 28,” he concluded.
