What Does the Scholarship Cover?

Selected students receive CHF 1,600 every month for the minimum statutory duration of their chosen Master’s degree. The University of Lausanne also provides recipients with an exemption from standard course registration fees.

However, scholarship holders must continue to pay the mandatory CHF 80 semester fee. The university states that the scholarship amount does not cover all living expenses in Switzerland.

Students should therefore budget separately for accommodation, food, transportation, insurance and other personal costs that may exceed the monthly scholarship.

How Many Scholarships Are Available?

The University of Lausanne awards approximately 10 Master’s scholarships each year. Selection is competitive and focuses on international applicants with excellent academic records.

Admission to an eligible Master’s program does not automatically result in the award of a scholarship.

Who Can Apply?

International students who completed their previous university education outside Switzerland are eligible to apply. Pakistani students can therefore apply if they fulfill the university’s academic and admission requirements.

Applicants must hold a foreign university qualification that the University of Lausanne considers equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from UNIL.

Candidates are also expected to demonstrate strong academic performance and meet the admission requirements of their selected Master’s program.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must have an excellent academic record from their previous university studies. Academic performance is an important factor in the scholarship selection process.

Candidates must also possess a qualification recognised by UNIL as equivalent to the degree required for admission to their chosen Master’s program.

Applicants should review the specific academic requirements of their intended program, as conditions may differ between faculties and degree programs.

Language Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the language requirements of their selected Master’s program. Candidates applying for programs taught in French generally need strong French-language skills, while those applying to English-taught programs must meet the required English proficiency level.

UNIL generally expects applicants to have at least C1-level proficiency in the relevant language of instruction where applicable.

Individual Master’s programs may have their own accepted language tests and minimum score requirements, so applicants should check the conditions for their chosen degree.

Which Master’s Programs Are Eligible?

The scholarship covers most Master’s programs offered by the University of Lausanne, although certain programs are excluded.

Excluded programs include specific degrees in medicine, education, sports education, health sciences, sustainable management and technology, human taphonomy, continuing education and certain Master of Law programs.

Applicants should confirm the eligibility of their intended Master’s program before preparing their application.

Two Recommendation Letters Required

Applicants are required to provide two recommendation letters. After completing the online registration process, candidates must ask their referees to send the letters directly to the University of Lausanne.

Applicants are advised to contact their referees well in advance to ensure the recommendations reach the university before the application deadline.

Documents Required

Candidates should prepare all academic and supporting documents before starting the application. These may include a university degree or proof of expected completion, academic transcripts, identification documents, a CV, motivation-related documents and other materials required by UNIL.

Applicants must also arrange the two required recommendation letters. Documents should comply with the university’s requirements regarding format, translation and certification where applicable.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit the UNIL Master’s Scholarship application online. The scholarship application also functions as the admission application for the selected Master’s program.

As a result, applicants do not need to submit a separate regular application to the university’s Admissions Office for the same degree.

Candidates should complete the online application, select an eligible Master’s program and upload all required academic and supporting documents.

After completing the online registration, applicants must instruct their two referees to send their recommendation letters directly to the University of Lausanne.

Candidates should carefully check all information and documents before submission, as incomplete applications may not be considered for the selection process.
