Mohsin Speed to Cut Islamabad–Rawalpindi Travel Time to Just 16 Minutes
Travel between Islamabad and Rawalpindi could become significantly faster following the completion of a new underpass and a six-lane service road along Islamabad Expressway.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the two projects could reduce travel time between the twin cities to around 16 to 18 minutes, compared with nearly 30 minutes currently. He made the remarks while discussing the development of the Kashmir Chowk underpass.
The Kashmir Chowk underpass is expected to improve traffic flow at one of Islamabad’s busy intersections. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has awarded the project at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.45 billion, with construction scheduled to proceed on a fast-track basis.
Meanwhile, work is underway on the six-lane service road along Islamabad Expressway. During an inspection on October 5, Naqvi instructed officials to accelerate construction and address delays, particularly those related to the relocation of utilities.
Officials expect the projects to improve traffic movement between Islamabad and Rawalpindi while helping reduce congestion on major routes. The government has also been advancing several road infrastructure projects in the capital to cope with rising traffic volumes and the city’s growing population.
