Maryam Nawaz Says Punjab Is Entering the AI Era While KP Remains Behind
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, comparing Punjab’s technology initiatives with what she described as a lack of progress in the province.
Addressing a laptop and scholarship distribution ceremony at the University of Sahiwal on October 16, Maryam said Punjab was advancing towards artificial intelligence (AI), while KP remained in the “Stone Age.” She also accused PTI of undermining its own provincial government through political protests and a long march.
During her speech, the chief minister highlighted her government’s efforts to improve students’ access to education and technology. A total of 4,700 students received laptops, while 1,500 students were awarded Honhaar scholarships at the ceremony.
Maryam also outlined plans to establish AI laboratories in educational institutions and expand public transport services throughout Punjab. She said the government intended to introduce electric bus services in every tehsil, with fares set at Rs20.
Her remarks came amid ongoing political tensions between the federal government and PTI over administrative measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. PTI has opposed the federal government’s actions in the province and challenged the measures on constitutional grounds.
The chief minister’s speech brought education, technological development, public transport and provincial governance into focus, adding another dimension to the political exchanges between Punjab’s leadership and PTI.
