HEC Issues Warning Over Fake Calls Seeking Money for Degree Attestation

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a public alert about fraudulent callers posing as its representatives and attempting to collect money from citizens for services including degree attestation, equivalence and other official procedures.

According to the commission, it has received several complaints regarding such calls. In some cases, the callers have also attempted to obtain sensitive personal and financial information from members of the public.

HEC clarified that it has not authorised any individual to contact citizens by telephone to collect payments or request personal information for its services.

The commission further stated that degree attestation, equivalence and related services are not provided through phone calls, nor does HEC ask applicants to make payments through this method.

Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant when receiving unsolicited calls from individuals claiming to represent HEC.

The commission urged people not to disclose PINs, passwords, identification details, banking information or other financial data to unknown callers.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should avoid sharing personal information or making any payment. The matter should instead be reported to the relevant telecom operator’s helpline or the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) through official channels.
