Pakistan Set to Launch Freight Train Services to Russia and Central Asia

Pakistan and Russia have signed a Freight Forwarding Contract aimed at strengthening cooperation in international cargo transportation and multimodal logistics. The agreement represents another step toward developing stronger railway connections between Pakistan, Russia and Central Asian markets.

Under the arrangement, both countries plan to launch a pilot container freight train connecting Pakistan with Russia and Central Asian countries. The proposed service has been delayed because of the ongoing regional conflict, but officials continue to keep the project on the agenda as part of their broader transport cooperation plans.

The proposed rail link could help facilitate cross-border trade, improve logistics efficiency and provide a more sustainable option for transporting goods across the region. It could also strengthen connectivity between South Asia, Central Asia and Russia, creating new opportunities for businesses involved in international trade.

The initiative may further support efforts to modernise Pakistan Railways and improve its financial sustainability by expanding freight operations and accessing new regional markets.
