Pakistan Says It Downed 8 Afghan Drones Over Airspace Violation

Pakistan’s security forces on Wednesday, September 23, reported shooting down eight drones after they allegedly entered the country’s airspace from Afghanistan. According to Pakistani security sources, the incidents occurred near the Torkham border and in mountainous areas around Kohat.

Officials stated that Pakistan’s air defence systems detected and intercepted all eight drones. Four were reportedly downed near Torkham, while the remaining four were brought down in mountainous areas near Kohat.

Pakistani security sources claimed the drones had been launched by the Afghan Taliban and alleged that they were involved in attempts to target public areas. These claims have been made by Pakistani officials, while independent confirmation regarding the drones’ origin and intended targets was not immediately available.

The incident comes as tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain elevated. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Taliban administration of allowing militant groups, including the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate from Afghan territory. Kabul has denied the allegations.

Pakistan has reported other similar incidents in recent months. In June, a drone was reportedly intercepted in Khyber, while four drones were said to have been shot down in Balochistan in July.
