Pakistan Army Deployed in Rawalpindi as Heavy Rain Triggers Emergency

The Pakistan Army has been deployed in Rawalpindi to support civil authorities in rescue and relief operations after intense rainfall created an emergency situation and raised concerns over urban flooding. WASA teams have also been mobilised, with heavy machinery placed at strategic locations to respond quickly to emergencies and assist with clearing affected areas.

Authorities are closely monitoring Nullah Lai, where rising water levels have increased concerns for nearby communities. Water levels at Kattarian reached 27 feet, while Gawalmandi recorded a flow of 21 feet, prompting warning sirens and alerts in surrounding areas. Heavy rainfall was also recorded across the city, with Shamsabad receiving 195 millimetres and New Kattarian recording 180 millimetres.

The heavy downpour has created difficult conditions on roads and in low-lying areas, increasing the risk of flooding. Residents have been advised to remain indoors where possible and avoid unnecessary travel, while motorists have been urged to stay away from flooded roads and areas near waterways.

The deployment of the Pakistan Army alongside WASA and other emergency services is aimed at strengthening Rawalpindi’s emergency response. Authorities are continuing to monitor rainfall, drainage systems and water levels in Nullah Lai while keeping rescue teams prepared for any further developments
