Pakistan Targets Global Top 24 Economy and G20 Membership, Ishaq Dar

Pakistan is aiming to strengthen its position in the global economy, with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stating that the country hopes to become the world’s 24th-largest economy and eventually join the G20.

The ambitious targets reflect the government’s long-term vision of expanding Pakistan’s economic size, improving competitiveness, and increasing its role in international economic affairs. Reaching the top 24 would require sustained economic growth and improvements across key sectors.

Higher productivity, stronger exports, increased investment, and greater economic stability will be important to achieving this goal. Pakistan would also need to create a stronger environment for businesses and industries so that economic expansion can generate employment and improve the country’s competitiveness in international markets.

G20 membership would represent another major step in Pakistan’s global economic standing. The group brings together major advanced and emerging economies and provides an important platform for discussions on international economic and financial matters.

Dar’s remarks highlight a broader ambition to make Pakistan not only a larger economy but also a more influential participant in global economic decision-making. Achieving this would depend on continued economic reforms, investment, export growth, and improvements in productive capacity.

The government is currently focused on strengthening economic fundamentals and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. Expanding productive industries and increasing exports will remain crucial for maintaining sustainable growth over the long term.

If Pakistan succeeds in building a larger and more stable economy, it could strengthen its ability to participate in major international economic initiatives and improve its global economic influence.

While becoming the 24th-largest economy and joining the G20 remain long-term ambitions, the targets underline Pakistan’s aim to pursue sustained economic growth and establish a stronger position in the international economic system.
