The PMD predicts intense precipitation across the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has projected extensive rainfall and thunderstorms across Islamabad and Rawalpindi over the coming forty-eight hours, cautioning that severe downpours on Tuesday and Wednesday may trigger urban flooding in the low-lying sectors of the twin cities.
According to the meteorological agency, humid air masses originating from the Arabian Sea are persistently impacting the nation's upper regions, while moisture-rich currents from the Bay of Bengal are projected to penetrate northeastern territories beginning Tuesday evening. Concurrently, an incoming westerly weather disturbance is anticipated to affect the upper sections of the country, intensifying the overall precipitation.
In addition to the capital and Rawalpindi, precipitation coupled with windstorms and thunder is anticipated across Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Okara, and Kasur, along with multiple neighboring districts.
The PMD issued a warning that intense wind gusts and lightning strikes could inflict structural damage on fragile installations, such as solar panels, utility poles, and public billboards.
Consequently, the department has recommended that citizens defer non-essential travel throughout the heavy downpours and has prompted administrative bodies to execute preventative protocols to avoid hazardous incidents. The agency further noted that the current hot and sticky atmospheric conditions are expected to clear up as the rainy system transitions through the area.
