Punjab Imposes Ban on Swimming and Boating

The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 throughout the province during the ongoing monsoon season, placing a temporary ban on swimming, bathing, and boating at various water bodies.

According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, bathing in rainwater accumulated in open or public areas has been prohibited. Swimming in dams, rivers, canals, lakes, and ponds has also been banned to reduce the risk of accidents.

The notification further bars all unauthorised boating activities in dams, rivers, canals, and distributaries for a period of 60 days.

Officials stated that the restrictions have been introduced to safeguard public safety amid the prevailing weather conditions and the increased danger of drowning and other water-related incidents. The Home Secretary has instructed district administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure the order is enforced effectively.

The provincial government has also started a public awareness campaign to educate citizens about the restrictions and encourage them to follow safety guidelines throughout the monsoon season.
