Man Named ‘Quaid-e-Azam’ Challenges CNIC Suspension in Peshawar High Court

A Pakistani citizen named Quaid-e-Azam has approached the Peshawar High Court after the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) suspended his Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).

The petition was heard by a bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Inamullah Khan. According to his counsel, the petitioner is a businessman with commercial interests in both Pakistan and Dubai. The suspension of his CNIC has disrupted his business dealings and created significant difficulties in his everyday affairs.

Representing NADRA, the authority’s legal counsel informed the court that the identity card had been blocked after being flagged as suspicious. However, no detailed explanation regarding the reasons behind the suspension was disclosed during the court proceedings.

After hearing arguments from both parties, the court instructed the petitioner to appear before the NADRA Verification Board for further review. The judges also directed that no deportation action should be taken against him until the verification process is completed, allowing him the opportunity to resolve the matter and regain access to his identity documents.

The case has attracted public interest due to the petitioner’s uncommon name, “Quaid-e-Azam,” a title famously associated with Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Since a blocked CNIC can restrict access to banking, travel, and several essential services, the outcome of the case is considered important for many citizens.
