Modern Waste Management: Punjab Utilizes Aerial Drones for First Time During Eid Cleanliness Operation

Punjab has adopted drone technology for the first time to oversee Eid-ul-Adha sanitation operations throughout the province, representing a significant advancement in modern waste management practices during one of the busiest times of the year. Officials stated that drones are enabling real-time monitoring of cleanliness activities, helping authorities detect locations needing urgent action and ensuring a faster response during the extensive cleanup drive.

According to provincial authorities, over 110,000 tons of animal waste were removed across Punjab during the first two days of Eid-ul-Adha. In Lahore alone, sanitation teams collected more than 17,000 tons of waste while continuing cleanup operations around the clock to maintain a clean environment throughout the city. Thousands of sanitation workers, waste collection vehicles, and heavy machinery units remained engaged in both urban and rural regions across the province.

The province-wide “Suthra Punjab” initiative is being managed through advanced technology and digital monitoring systems, with drones offering aerial observation of densely populated and high-priority locations. Officials noted that this innovation is strengthening coordination between field staff and administrative authorities while supporting improved hygiene and sanitation standards during the Eid holidays.

Authorities further stated that continuous cleanliness operations will remain in place until all leftover waste is cleared. Dedicated monitoring teams have also been assigned to ensure prompt disposal and to minimize environmental and public health risks in residential communities.
