Ufone: Bringing 5G to Pakistan.
Ufone is poised to become the third mobile carrier in Pakistan to introduce 5G technology, following formal authorization from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to initiate commercial activity.
The regulatory body has provided the company with a commencement letter, fulfilling a mandatory prerequisite for the public rollout. Consequently, Ufone is anticipated to debut its 5G network within the coming days.
According to established regulatory protocols, any operator acquiring a 5G license must undergo a trial phase at designated network locations. The PTA subsequently audits these sites to verify compliance with technical benchmarks and quality of service. Upon successful verification, the regulator grants a commencement letter, authorizing the provider to proceed with a full commercial launch.
The auction for Pakistan’s 5G spectrum concluded on March 10, 2026, during the allocation phase of the NGMS/5G bidding process. A cumulative 480 megahertz of spectrum was distributed, with Jazz obtaining 190 megahertz, Ufone acquiring 180 megahertz, and Zong securing 110 megahertz.
