Report: Punjab Approves Lowering Traffic Fines
According to reports from Dunya News, the Punjab government has greenlit a plan to decrease traffic penalties for various vehicle classes. This decision follows the Chief Minister's endorsement of a summary submitted by the DIG Traffic Punjab, with the proposal now heading to the Punjab Assembly for final legislative approval.
Under these updated guidelines, motorcycle penalties are expected to drop from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 1,000, and rickshaw fines will decrease from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 1,000. Nevertheless, significant traffic infractions will maintain a Rs. 2,000 penalty.
Penalties for cars and jeeps are slated to fall from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 3,000. Officials have kept existing fines for speeding violations across all motorcycles, rickshaws, and passenger cars.
For luxury cars and vehicles exceeding a 2000cc engine capacity, fines have been slashed from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 10,000, with a base penalty of Rs. 2,000. Additionally, fines for Mazdas, coasters, and smaller passenger vans have been marked down from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 7,000.
In a similar vein, penalties for buses, trucks, and other heavy transport vehicles have been cut from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 10,000. The proposal further suggests reductions reaching up to Rs. 10,000 for a range of other light and heavy vehicle violations.
