Punjab’s Chief Minister Starts Big Livestock Export Drive

Authorities in Punjab have inked a substantial deal to ramp up animal and meat trade abroad, representing a major move to bolster the region's farming finances.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz led a virtual session where the administration formalized a pact with seven organizations, such as Global Meat Company. Per the accord, Punjab intends to ship one million head of livestock.

Within this project, a Chinese firm will partner with the Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company to set up a high-tech boiling facility for mass-producing processed meat for foreign markets. Managers noted that meat firms will source from nearly 300,000 animals ready for shipment.

The administration has also defined bold growth goals, including the conditioning of 300,000 cattle, 300,000 small ruminants, and the rearing of another 100,000 goats and sheep specifically for international sale.

To assist the industry, leaders will build advanced animal clinics in every sub-district and launch four roving veterinary units per area to deliver medical care directly to farmers' doors.

Seeking to uplift rural residents, the chief minister increased the allocation of complimentary livestock for women two-fold. The state will hand out 9,255 animals to widows and divorced individuals across 12 South Punjab regions.

Punjab will also bring technology to animal husbandry, providing up to a 60% price reduction on equipment. Furthermore, about two million animals will receive tags to enhance tracking and satisfy global trade requirements.

Representatives mentioned the project seeks to update livestock methods, grow foreign sales, and generate financial prospects, especially for those living in the countryside.
