Pakistan Regulates International Calls to Drive Revenue Growth
The government has moved to oversee inbound international telephony to bolster fiscal returns, tighten security, and enhance transparency, according to Ministry of IT officials.
Sources informed ProPakistani that global calls are presently managed via Long Distance International (LDI) providers. Consequently, the Ministry of IT has instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to draft a formal policy to govern this incoming traffic.
Deliberations are currently underway with industry stakeholders and relevant agencies regarding the drafted rules. Ministry insiders suggest that the final framework will receive formal clearance once these discussions conclude.
The initiative aims to refine system oversight, optimize the financial model, and build a more robust security architecture. The PTA is also gearing up to proactively track international call volume, signaling a shift toward stricter governance of global telecom activities.
Following the rollout of these regulations, both domestic telecom carriers and LDI firms are anticipated to assume broader responsibilities within the updated ecosystem.
