Dar Reaffirms Pakistan’s Role in Sustaining Dialogue After US Signals Failed Talks

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar clarified on Sunday that diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran continues, despite an announcement from US Vice President JD Vance that the discussions concluded without a breakthrough. Dar stated that Islamabad remains dedicated to bridging the gap between the United States and Iran following the departure of both official groups from the city.

In a formal statement issued after the sessions, Dar extended appreciation to both parties for acknowledging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s plea for a ceasefire and for attending the high-level summit hosted in Islamabad.

Key Participants and Mediation Efforts

The American delegation was headed by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran’s representatives were led by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Senior Pakistani leadership, including Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, participated in mediating several rounds of intense dialogue that lasted nearly 24 hours before finishing on Sunday morning.

Persisting Through Diplomatic Challenges

While Washington has officially indicated that no consensus was reached, Dar highlighted that Pakistan is determined to keep all communication lines functional. He shared his expectation that both nations will respect the ceasefire and return to future talks with a focus on securing long-term regional peace and economic development.

Strategic Continuity

Dar concluded by noting that Pakistan is ready to “persist in its role” as a central mediator for future peace initiatives. He emphasized that the focus remains on fostering a cooperative environment to ensure that the progress made during the Islamabad meetings is not lost.
